I was asked during a recent daunting job transition, “What do you want to do with your energy, experience and skills? What makes you want to get up in the morning and feel good at the end of the day?” My immediate answer was counseling – listening to others in a connected, compassionate, and non-judgmental manner; helping others find their own path through life’s changes by focusing on grief issues, giving support, skills and hope for life.
As a child I drew a picture of me going to help someone in need. And, I have been drawn to that direction throughout my professional life. From volunteering at an Austin Free Clinic to counseling and managing in- and out-patient programs addressing substance use issues to Employee Assistance Professional work with a Federal Occupational Health, The Council on Recovery, and global oil and gas companies, and recently proving individual therapy. I gained clinical experience with grief associated with death, suicide, job loss, workplace violence and risk, bullying, injury, natural and man-made disasters, divorce, life transitions, medical conditions/damages, and disabilities as well as substance use problems and change.
Due to many varied experiences and interactions with persons of international backgrounds,
I developed a comfortable, open, healing style. I love what I do. I see human life as a series of situations – often very challenging. I know through personal experience that ‘I can relate’.
I value support, information and guidance in such times of change. Yet, grief and loss can lead to recovery. I am happy to be of support if you are interested in dealing with grief – finding your inner abilities, a new perspective and path for happiness. Let’s do this healing!
