Licensed Professional Counselor & Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
As a child I remember often wanting to be included in the grown-up conversations. I listened to every detail of each person’s unique story and was fascinated by their journeys. Stories are how we give context to our emotions and connects us as human beings. Grief is one such emotion that affects all of us at some point in our lives. When we experience a break-up, a divorce, or a death our emotions can feel so raw, heavy, and overwhelming. Often, the feeling of loss or grief come in waves depending on the day. You sometimes want to avoid the conversations because you are unsure if it would help or you do not want to be a burden to those close to you. This is why I create a nurturing environment open to exploring all aspects of your loss and to help you guide your new normal.
Throughout my career I had the opportunity to work with clients of all ages including children, teenagers, and adults. My journey as a bilingual Marriage and Family Therapist began 8 years ago working with child sexual abuse victims and their families. While working with these families, I often found that my clients had multiple traumatic experiences including various losses and grief. As a therapist, it was very important to address their grief and the changes that came with it. Therefore, I expanded my knowledge and expertise to include treating loss and grief using methods such as Multidimensional Grief Therapy (MGT) and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). I have also been able to use my skills to work with immigrant youth and unaccompanied minors coming from Central America and other regions that have suffered some of the most intense physical and emotional pain, while also grieving the people they left behind. It has been deeply rewarding to provide my skills and help heal this resilient and motivated but underserved population in our community.
My energy comes from helping people learn self-compassion as a stepping stone to building intrinsic empowerment and using their own stories to instill hope and guide them while we acknowledge all the emotions that come with it. Our bodies tell us what is needed, and if we listen to it, we might discover the answer we are looking for. If you are ready to start your healing journey, I can help you every step of the way.
