Cecil Stimits

Licensed Professional Counselor

I wake up every morning excited to work with people in psychotherapy. When I think about helping people, I believe that establishing a good therapeutic relationship and giving clients a voice is what helps them the most.  I also believe that good listening is the main component of establishing a therapeutic relationship with clients. Although I consider myself as eclectic, I like to use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness-based approaches to help my clients. With that said, I’m open to client feedback and what works best for them. For example, using sand tray techniques to help adult clients. First and foremost, I strive with every client to build a trusting therapeutic relationship where they feel they have a voice and where we collaboratively create a safe space to discuss life challenges and stressors

In 2003, I graduated from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas, with a Master’s Degree in Counseling with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy. I have been working as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) for approximately 15 years. I have 13 years of experience working in Inpatient Psychiatric Facilities in Houston, Texas. I primarily work with clients experiencing depression, anxiety, mood disorders, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, and Schizophrenia. I’ve worked with a number of populations over my career to include inpatient psychiatric hospitalization clients, nursing home clients, incarcerated clients, and clients in public-school settings
